Abstract

Institutional contexts and cultural systems play a central role in shaping interpersonal behavior by influencing how individuals communicate, cooperate, resolve conflicts, and establish social relationships across diverse environments. This review synthesizes contemporary literature to examine the interconnected roles of formal institutions, informal social norms, cultural values, and organizational practices in guiding interpersonal interactions. The discussion integrates evidence from sociology, institutional theory, psychology, organizational studies, intercultural communication, and public governance to explain how family, educational, workplace, political, legal, and digital institutions contribute to behavioral development throughout the life course. The review further highlights the growing influence of globalization, multiculturalism, technological transformation, and generational change in redefining interpersonal relationships and institutional expectations. Particular attention is given to the emergence of digital institutional environments, where identity negotiation, social learning, and intercultural communication increasingly shape patterns of human interaction.
